Clif Bar & Company is initiating a voluntary recall of CLIF BAR® Sierra Trail Mix energy bars, imported from the United States and sold across Canada, after its ingredient supplier, SunOpta, was found to have distributed sunflower seeds that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono).

Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono) is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

We strongly recommend that you read the warning communicated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to learn more about the process in case of consumption. 

Clif Bar & Company has not received any news of Clif consumers being affected; however the company is initiating a voluntary recall of this product flavour from the market out of an abundance of caution.
