Staff Gems - Matt Atyeo

This month, we’re featuring Product Manager Matt Atyeo. Living in Golden, British Columbia, he is another one of many employees you can find on any type of bike when he’s not behind his desk. Dedicated not just to our brands and customers at HLC, Matt is also deeply connected to his local cycling community, having served on the board of the Golden Cycling Club for the past 4 years to give back to a sport that gives him so much in return.

Be it trails, roads, or the champagne gravel, the blessing of the endless opportunity at his doorstep means Matt eats, breathes, and sleeps bikes. You may even occasionally find that he is that person who feels the need to wear Lycra on the trails.

SRAM Eagle Transmission 1987 - Sometimes bike components are functional, sometimes they’re pieces of art. Every so often, those two collide, as with the limited-edition SRAM 1987 groupset. Designed to celebrate SRAM's history and technological progress, it's everything you want in a modern groupset while retaining a distinct retro look. Light enough to hang on the raciest of XC whips, strong enough to race Enduro, all the while it looks drop-dead gorgeous.

Wera 3950 SPKL L-keys - The eternal tale of someone who works in the bike industry. Fixing and looking after others' bikes often means your own ride doesn’t get quite the attention and care it deserves. After a few too many experiences out on the trails with his bike riding sub-optimally, Matt decided it was time for more. Wanting to give his bikes a little more love between more extensive services at his IBD, the world of tools opened to him. This, however, is when he learned there are tools, and there are tools. Unfortunately for Matt, when you can feel the quality of the Wera L keys in hand, there's much less room to blame tools for poor mechanical skills.

Chamois Butt’R - If you know, you know. When you put as many miles in on the saddle as Matt does, you need to take care of yourself. No matter if it’s on the trails or on the tarmac, you’ll thank yourself later if you just remember this one little thing before a ride.

Minoura AB 100 5.5 Bottle Cage  - Simple products that just work, what a concept. With the Minoura bottle cages, there is no need to overthink or cost a fortune. This cage holds a bottle, comes in all of the colours you may need and is reasonably priced. There isn’t much more you could ask for, and there isn’t too much else to say about it. Dropping bottles is not something that Matt needs to worry about; it's that simple.
